The best hot springs in Uruguay are located in Salto. The most famous are Arapey and Daymán, highly recommended for relaxation and for the healing properties of the hot waters that contain natural nutrients.
The Salto Grande Dam (one of the biggest in South America) is also an interesting place to visit.
Salto is very proud of its Larrañaga theatre, inaugurated in 1882, and the house of Horacio Quiroga, one of the most important writers in the Latin American Literature, author of “Cuentos de la Selva” and “Anaconda”, among many others.
REPRESA DE SALTO GRANDE.
Una gran atracción es la represa binacional Hidroeléctrica de Salto Grande, además de su propósito esencial une físicamente Uruguay y Argentina, al extenderse sobre ella un puente carretero y uno ferroviario.
La represa es la principal usina energética del país y sus instalaciones pueden ser visitadas por los turistas de la mano de los guías.
La primera turbina comenzó a funcionar en 1979 y la última en 1985. En el lago artificial formado por el embalse de la represa de Salto Grande que cubre una superficie de 78.000 hectáreas se crea un gran parque apto para todo tipo de deportes acuáticos, la pesca y el picnic.
DAYMAN HOT SPRINGS (TERMAS DEL DAYMÁN).
Located at 6 kilometers -3.75 miles- south of the city of Salto, with a hotel capacity of 3.000 beds, Daymán is the most visited thermal center in the country. It receives more than 300 thousand tourists annually who arrive attracted by their 12 swimming pools, the ample rest Areas, their aquatic park and its sport facilities. The water with temperatures regulated according to the climate, oscillates between the 27 and 48 Celsius degrees - 82º F /116º F.
ARAPEY HOT SPRING (TERMAS DEL ARAPEY ).
The most traditional hot springs resort in Uruguay is located in the countryside framed in a beautiful country, 80 kilometers northeast from the province’s capital.
It has an infrastructure that includes a 5-star hotel, another 4-star hotel and one 3-star hotel, in addition to a complex of bungalows and motels with a combined total capacity of 2,000 beds. The water, with important therapeutic powers, arises at the temperature of 39 Celsius degrees-102º F.
RECORRER LA CIUDAD.
Realizar un paseo por la ciudad de Salto constituye una experiencia que vale la pena. Su planta urbana está dotada de numerosas plazas muy bien cuidadas . La principal avenida Uruguay, desemboca directamente en la rambla costanera, otro de los paseos inevitables visitando Salto. La costanera está tapizada de verdes árboles nativos y varias playas entorno a las cuales se encuentran algunos balnearios muy pintorescos.
