Piriápolis is a beautiful coastal city located at 40 kilometers from Punta del Este. It was founded in 1893 by Francisco Piria and quickly became a successful beach resort. The city is centered around the Rambla de los Argentinos, a waterfront promenade.
With a tourism-centered economy, Piriápolis has nice hotels, a casino, an active nightlife scene, and public parks. The Cerro de San Antonio offers a panoramic view of the coast. For more adventurous travelers, Uruguay’s third-highest point, the Cerro Pan de Azúcar, 10 Kilometers outside of town, presents a challenging climb as well as a nature reserve. Boat tours and saltwater fishing are available at the Piriápolis port.
PIRIA’S CASTLE (CASTILLO PIRIA).
In 1897 Francisco Piria constructs his castle designed by the architect Monzami with reminiscences of the Italian riviera.Piria's Castle used to be his home. At the present time is a museum, in where are displayed silverwork and European glassware brought for the Argentine Hotel, Piria's great work in Piriápolis, which has just celebrated its 80 years as a hotel.
SAN ANTONIO HILL (CERRO SAN ANTONIO).
Something that characterizes this beautiful resort is the San Antonio Hill, which offers a great panoramic sight of the region.
HILL OF THE BULL (CERRO DEL TORO).
At the top of this hill, located 100 meters over the sea level, the visitor will find the Fountain of the Bull, with a 3 tons sculpture of this animal, which was brought specially from Paris.
THE WATERFALL PARK (PARQUE LA CASCADA).
This park is only minutes away from downtown Piriápolis.
A great place to enjoy a green area with the whole family, next to a 5 meters waterfall.
