With shores on the Río Uruguay, this area’s characteristic is its natural hot springs, also its beaches and thick scrubland that are great for adventure and nautical sports. Visitors will find many green and leisure areas as well as excellent services.
The Florencio Sánchez theatre is an architectural gem and a cultural benchmark. It can hold 1000 spectators and has a vast collection of historical material. Fossils found in many parts of the country are held in its Paleontology Sector. The first bridge to connect Uruguay with Argentina was the José Artigas International Bridge, also known as Paysandú-Colón Bridge.
GUAVIYÚ HOT SPRINGS (TERMAS DE GUAVIYÚ).
The aquifer that feeds these hot springs is one of the largest in the world, with over 1 million square kilometers. It is located on Route 3, Km 431, 60 Km from Paysandu. It offers in-door and out-door pools as well as 38º C pools with healing effects. Open all year round. There are motels, campsites, and other services.
ALMIRON HOT SPRINGS (TERMAS DE ALMIRON).
These are the only salt-water hot springs in Uruguay. Temperature of water is 42º C. There are 3 hot spring pools with different depths, 1 cold-water pool, and 1 in-door pool. These waters are rich in sulfate, chloride, calcium, and magnesium, thus providing healing effects. It is a quiet place with several motels, restaurants, and campsites.
MESETA DE ARTIGAS.
A 15 Km. de la Ruta 3 y a 68 Km. al norte de la ciudad de Paysandú encontramos la maravillosa Meseta de Artigas, una elevación ubicada junto al río Uruguay donde en 1815 se instaló durante aproximadamente un año el gobierno artiguista. En la actualidad no existe ningún resto de la precaria ciudad ni del campamento de Purificación, sólo se levanta una columna de granito de 37 metros de alto sobre una pirámide coronada con un busto del "Jefe de los Orientales". El lugar es un extenso parque y un único espacio recreativo natural.
